VIA USB Filter Patch 1.10

Through feedback in the forums and hundreds of emails over the years, we know that technical support hot lines for many peripheral (as in printer/scanner/camera etc) manufacturers, tell their customers to "update the drivers" or "update the controller". The VIA USB host controller, rev 5 or later refers to the version of the USB controller featured on your motherboard. The controller cannot be updated without updating your motherboard to a motherboard that has a later revision controller. The driver for VIA USB controllers are built into Microsoft operating systems which support USB. It is known as VIA Tech 3038 PCI to USB controller. This is inbuilt and cannot be updated.
The advice you received to update the driver or controller, probably means that they recommend that you update the VIA Hyperion 4in1 drivers. Or the advice might mean that they recommend you to install the USB filter patch below. If you have been advised that you need revision 5 or later, but you have a revision older than 5, it may well be that the peripheral USB device you want to install is too new for your motherboard and therefore not compatible. If you suspect that might be the case, please ask for clarification from the manufacturer of the peripheral device.
This patch fixes very specific issues under specific circumstances, described below. Users who are unsure as to whether they should install the patch can be assured that if they do install the patch, even if it is not necessary, it will cause no harm to their system. The patch will detect your systems configuration and install only when necessary. The patch will only install on certain older VIA host controller revisions.
Changes:
Fixes the issue when a connected usb hub that has no usb devices connected will be disabled after another usb hub is attached at another available root port.
Fixes the issue when transferring large of amounts of data, the system will hang.
Avoids noise from a USB audio converter or speaker.
Supports a usb 1.0 add-on card. Note that this patch does not assist with problems concerning USB 2.0 add-on cards.
